A Shared Bedroom Makeover: The Plan

Until we finally find a home to buy, my son and daughter will be sharing a room. Like I mentioned in a previous post, we live in a 2 bedroom home and there is just no way around it.

However, their room is currently a complete mismatch of stuff with no cohesive feel. So, in the attempt to make things a little more “homey”, I have a plan to give their room an inexpensive, and hopefully easy makeover. The camera is out of commision at the moment (still that darn bad light sensor, *sad face*), so we’ll just have to settle for a design board until we can get that fixed and can take pictures of the finished project.

1. Color Scheme – Main Wall Color is Behr Twilight Grey
2. Paint Stick Lamp Shade – Tutorial
3. White Curtains – Source Unknown
4. Ikea Antonius Collection: frame and wire baskets on casters
5. Blue Pinstrip Floor Pillows
6. Elephant Pillow
7. Chalkboard
8. Petal Pillow
9. Stencil for closet walls
10. Green Chevron Pillow
11. Doggie Silhouette Pillow
12. Ruffle Pillow
13. Grey and White Rug

The grey/blue base color feels updated, but yet still slightly traditional when paired with the white trim. The wall color is gender neutral and allows us to use accessories with more gender specifc colors to define the girl vs. boy spaces in the room. Because storage is so imperitive in a shared bedroom, the kids will each have their own Ikea set of drawers in which to store their clothes. I also plan to use a stencil similar to the kaleidescope pattern above to paint a white, fun pattern in the closet. The chalkboard will be placed in an old awkward window alcove to give it a little more life and purpose as well.

We have already made white letters to hang above their beds like these too!

Found here.

And here are a couple of inspiring rooms with gender specific color schemes that I would like to mimic to define their spaces:

I can’t wait to share the finished room with you. Here’s to hoping we have a working camera soon!

Do you have any good tips for creating a fun boy/girl shared room? Please share!

Have a Happy Friday!!
